Generating the initial IO configuration for zSeries

You have been presented with a newly delivered, commisioned z9 Series mainframe and need to develop the IO configuration from what you see...

Here is an example to help.

You open the front of the box and see something like the following pictures (left, centre, right).

z9 left

z9 center

z9 right

What have we got here?

The cards (from left to right)...

  1. Fast ethernet
  2. FICON
  3. FICON
  4. blank
  5. power
  6. FICON
  7. blank
  8. blank
  9. ESCON
  10. FICON
  11. Fast ethernet
  12. blank
  13. FICON
  14. power
  15. blank
  16. FICON
  17. ESCON
  18. blank

We should now go the Service Element and logon with SYSPROG and the usual "password".

  • Select CPC
  • Select CPC Configuration Menu
  • Select Channel to CHPID Assignment

For example...

The column headings are as follows...

  1. channel location cage - card slot - jack
  2. boot - MBA - jack
  3. channel state
  4. PCHID
  5. CSS - CHPID
  6. card type
